"Tatpar-Mumbai 2010" or Alert Mumbai --- A disaster management seminar was organised by the BMC on 26 th - 27 th feb 2010.
"It is important to spread awareness among people on what to do and how to attend to injured people," said Mahesh Narvekar, chief officer of the BMC's disaster management cell. The event which featured demonstrations, exhibition and informative one-to-one sessions was inaugurated by Mayor of Mumbai, Mrs. Shraddha Jadhav.
Three explosions were simulated over the weekend as part of an exhibition and drill on disaster management techniques.
A mock blast on Saturday, the first day, included 70 Civil Defence volunteers. The simulated scene of mass casualties unfolded at Shivaji Park in Dadar, where a "bomb" was kept in a bag, followed by a series of make-believe explosions.
Live Demonstrations were performed by various agencies by recreating various disaster situations like rescuing victims stuck below debris of fallen building during earthquake, disaster response and rescue during bomb blasts, chemical weapon attacks, fire rescue and mitigation, aerial rescue using helicopters, parade and rescue demonstration by specially trained dogs of NDRF and CRPF, etc.
